Victor Osimhen Inches Towards 119-Year Galatasaray Record

A Historic Achievement Looms for Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is on the brink of making history at Galatasaray, with the Nigerian striker closing in on the club’s all-time record for most goals in a single season by a foreign player. Currently on a season-long loan from Napoli, the Super Eagles star has taken Turkish football by storm, becoming one of the most prolific players in Galatasaray‘s history. Osimhen’s remarkable performances have made him a fan favourite at Rams Park, and his goals have been crucial in the club’s push for back-to-back Süper Lig titles.

Osimhen’s Prolific Season: A Record-Breaking Campaign

In just 35 appearances across all competitions, Victor Osimhen has amassed 30 goals and seven assists. His prolific form has made him a key figure in Galatasaray‘s title challenge, and with 21 goals in the Süper Lig, he is currently the league’s top scorer. Osimhen has also contributed significantly in other competitions, scoring three goals in the Turkish Cup and netting six times in Europa League matches before Galatasaray‘s exit to AZ Alkmaar.

His consistent scoring places him fourth on Galatasaray’s all-time list of foreign scorers in a single season, according to journalist Buchi Laba. Currently, Victor Osimhen sits just four goals behind the record-holder, Brazilian icon Mario Jardel, who scored 34 goals during the 2000-01 season. Mauro Icardi and Bafétimbi Gomis share second place with 32 goals each.

Should Osimhen score five more goals before the season ends, he will not only surpass Jardel’s record but also become the highest-scoring foreign player in a single campaign in the Süper Lig’s entire history.

Osimhen’s Remarkable Consistency

One of Osimhen‘s most impressive feats has been his ability to score goals away from home. With 11 of his league goals coming on the road, he is currently the most prolific player away from home in the league this season. He leads Rizespor’s Ali Sowe by three goals in this category and will have a chance to add to his tally when Galatasaray travels to face Eyüpspor on Sunday.

Impact on the Title Race: Galatasaray’s Key Player

With just six games remaining in the season and Galatasaray holding a five-point lead over Fenerbahçe, Osimhen’s goals will be pivotal in securing another Süper Lig title for Okan Buruk’s side. Eyüpspor, who sit fourth and are chasing European qualification, will be determined to cause an upset. The last time the two teams met, the match ended in a 2-2 draw at Rams Park in December, but Osimhen’s current form makes Galatasaray the favourites heading into the fixture.

Looking Ahead: A Historic Season for Osimhen

All eyes are on Victor Osimhen, whose remarkable form has the potential to see him crowned as both Galatasaray’s and the Turkish Süper Lig’s greatest-ever foreign goalscorer. As Osimhen continues to break records and climb up the all-time list, he is not only building a legacy at Galatasaray but also making a mark on Turkish football history.
