Koeman Hails ‘Lethal’ Frimpong After Standout Display Against Spain

Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman was full of praise for Jeremie Frimpong following the Bayer Leverkusen star’s electric performance in the UEFA Nations League quarter-final against Spain.

Frimpong was a constant menace, creating four chances, winning 10 duels, and completing seven dribbles. His quick link-up play with Tijjani Reijnders set up the Netherlands’ second goal in their 2-2 draw.

Frimpong’s Game-Changing Performance

Speaking to NOS, Frimpong broke down his assist:

“I did that one-two with Tijjani, and I saw the space. The Spain defense shifted to the near post, so I knew the cut-back was on. Tijjani finished it off brilliantly.”

Despite initially struggling for game time under Koeman, Frimpong has now become an important figure in the Dutch squad.

“I just try to give everything for the team—use my speed, my energy, and work hard,” he said. “We played really well. We could have won, but the red card cost us. Overall, it was a strong performance.”

On his best position, Frimpong added:

“I enjoy playing anywhere on the side—right-back, right-mid, wing-back, right-wing. My game doesn’t change.”

Koeman: “Frimpong is Lethal”

Koeman was highly impressed with the 23-year-old’s attacking influence and defensive work rate.

“Amazing. Jeremie was a player we discussed—if you find him quickly and let him take on a full-back, he’s lethal,” Koeman said. “His speed is a huge weapon.”

The Dutch manager also praised Lutsharel Geertruida, who started at right-back in place of the ill Jurrien Timber, saying he handled Spain’s attackers well.
